Time Machine Added to Menu Bar in 10.5.2

One of the more handy updates I found immediately after installation of OS X 10.5.2 was the addition of Time Machine to the menu bar. Simply click on the time machine logo, and you can administer your Time Machine settings, view when your last backup took place, browse other Time Machine disks and more. A very handy little update indeed. Two thumbs up!

If you haven’t installed 10.5.2 yet, simply run ’software update…’ from the Apple menu to get started.

Share Your Pictures with SkitchSkitch, coming soon by the Plasq team, is an amazing screenshot tool for Mac OSX. With an easy uploading tool that uploads the images to your own page in a snap. Skitch is currently in a private, invite only, beta. But there are tons of invites flying around and it is very easy to catch one.

Skitch sits in the menu bar (and/or dock if you prefer) and when you click it it seems to stretch right out of the menu bar. On the left, you can choose your tool. And on the right you can pick a color or choose to take a screenshot. You can even use your iSight to take a self portrait. Want to use your own image? Then you can drop an image to the Skitch window to edit and upload.

Once you have chosen an image to use you can use any of the tools to add text or lines and drawings to your image. Then when you are finally done adding stuff you can save to history, which saves it to a Skitch folder in the Skitch format, drag it anywhere, which saves it as a standard image file, or webpost, which quickly uploads it to your very own myskitch page.

For more info on Skitch, visit the official site

Apple News

Japan Makes the Switch to MacSales of OS X Leopard have surpassed Windows sales over in Japan. What a great country!

According to the hard numbers, Apple now claims 53.9% of Japan’s OS market in October. OS X Sales have increased from 15.5% to 60.5% in the past year, while Windows has suffered a drop from 75.3% to 28.7% during the same period. Looks like Japan is ‘making the switch‘.

Speculation is that this lead won’t last long, due to the fact that there is an insane amount of PC’s in Japan. We’ll have to see how things go during the next little bit. All-in-all, not a bad feather in Apple’s cap.
