Rumors, iPhone

There is a current rumor going around that Apple and AT&T are in discussions to bring an official tethering option to iPhone.

Before I go on, tethering allows someone with a laptop to connect to the internet using their cellular phone as the internet connection. As you may have heard a third party developer called Nullriver sold an app called NetShare which allowed you to tether your laptop to your iPhone. After a short time in the app store Apple pulled the application with no explanation.

One thing that should be noted is AT&T forbids tethering the iPhone but offers tethering for many other phones they sell for an extra $30/month.  Steve Jobs is said to have responded to an email stating:

‘We agree, and are discussing it with ATT…’

iPhone Apps

For a little while on Thursday night, Apple made download-able what could have been the most popular iPhone App on their App Store. A program from NullRiver called Netshare. Unfortunately however this application was taken down as Apple realised that this program could create quiet a large headache for Mobile Networks everywhere.

Netshare gave iPhone & iTouch users the ability to share their EDGE or 3G Internet connection with their computer. This would have allowed laptop users to access the Internet and its full functionality anywhere, anytime.

Never fear though, their is hope. If your iPhone is jailbroken have a look around the internet. Their is other methods out there of achieving the same functionality.

EDIT 1#: It seems Netshare is back on the App Store, at least my Australian App store anyway. So, Check it out, give it a go and let us know what you think!

EDIT 2#: Apple’s decided to take Netshare back off the App Store, sorry all!
