Yes, Apple users love their iPods. Often a little too much. We sleep with them, we shower with them and often we may even occasionally listen to them, but in essence they aren’t really ‘ours’. They all look the same, come in the same colors and often sound the same. With the amount of iPods in peoples pockets at the moment it can be quiet easy to confuse yours with someone else’s.

With Apple set to unveil the 2008 back-to-school promotion, Ron Johnson, the senior vice president of Apple is apparently calling it ‘Apple’s biggest educational special ever’. AppleInsider has reported that educational incentives will be bigger than any other promotion in history. There are even rumblings of Apple including the 8GB iPod Touch into some offers.

Sweet educational ‘bundles’… Doesn’t that sound good?

Each and every year it seems Apple increases the incentives. Last year a $199 discount was offered, covering the cost of a 4GB iPod Nano. Before that in ‘06 and ‘05, a $179 rebate was offered which earned students a 2GB iPod Mini.

Look for Apple to offer discounts on the more affordable priced Mac Mini this time around… But don’t count out other discounts. As mentioned above, I’d love to see some sort of educational bundle up for discount… A MBP, iPod Touch and perhaps even an extra hard drive for backup… Everything the student would need for hopping from class to class, and to keep their work safe and backed up… But that will never happen, Apple doesn’t make backup drives. Would be a sweet offer though, almost tempting enough to make me want to hit the books again

This years back-to-school educational discounts are expected to start as early as next Monday, June 2nd.

The Apple Store has announced price cuts on current generation refurbished 4GB and 8GB iPod nanos. The refurbished 4GB iPod nano is $129 (was $149) and the refurbished 8GB is now $169 (was $199). On top of the lowered prices you can get free shipping as well!

The nanos ship in ‘the updated, beautiful white refurb boxes’ and come with a 1-year warranty (same warranty that comes with all new nanos)…. The 4GB is currently only available in silver, but the 8GB is available in black, silver, blue and green.

A few days ago Apple donated 100 iPods to victims of the California fires. Surely this was at the top of the victims’ priority lists?

Apparently a local resident emailed Steve Jobs saying, “iPods are an accessory that most kids like and can’t live without.” In response Jobs sent 100 iPod nanos to (help?) the victims.

I hope they were already loaded up with music, because I’m sure most of their computers were destroyed in the fires…

Don’t worry about the lost homes or shattered lives, here… Cheer up, have an iPod
