In case you hadn’t already noticed, there’s a new iPhone software ready for download. Version 2.0.1 weighs in at 250MB. It’s a biggee… I wonder what could be packed into it!?
Many notable improvements have been made (that I’ve noticed so far anyway). The OS seems quicker and more stable. There’s no contacts slow-down anymore either. The one major thing I did notice that it does not seem to have… is copy and paste. C’mon Apple, better get on that!
With the US Open in full swing, I figured it was a great time to make another golf-related post. When I first started reading about this I wanted it on my iPhone immediately… But sadly it will have to wait until the iPhone 3G ships.
The folks over at GolfFlyover.com are offering over 10,000 fully mapped out golf courses for the iPhone 3G. Yardages and all kinds of good stuff will be packed in the course maps, from the 1st tee to the 18th green of your local course.
They will also be offering golf course flyovers for an in-depth view of all holes at your local track. The flyovers help give you added information, and will help you plan your attack before that first round at a new course.
The good news about all this is that GolfFlyover plans to offer up the course info and maps free of charge…and no membership is required.
Bad news is that the courses will be limited to the US only. Darn it! I can hear Canadians groaning… I suppose we’ll just have to map our own courses out with Google Earth and transfer that data to our iPhones or heck, just create a yardage book
Should be really interesting to see how this app comes out. Looks to me that it will be closely tied-in with Google Earth.
iPhysics has been available for quite some time now for the iPhone. It’s a handy little 3rd party game engine developed by r4m0n. With it you can install quite a few games that have incredibly accurate and lifelike physics… Cool beans!
At last count there was roughly 50 or so different packages/games/level packs available within the iPhysics folder in installer.app. So there are lots of titles to choose from for sure.
I’ve only recently re-installed iPhysics, as I had issues with it running on 1.1.1 and 1.1.2. Currently I’m on a jailbroken and unlocked iPhone running 1.1.3 and it works beautifully. I’ve got 3 games installed in iPhysics (Crayon Physics, Sandbox, and iPinball), and I have to say I’m enjoying them. iPinball is pretty darn cool as you can see from the video below. Does have a few bugs, whenever I try to turn up or turn down the volume, the screen flickers like mad… But other than that, all good. r4m0n appears to be working on the flicker problems, as you can see at his Wiki here.
If you can’t find iPhysics in installer.app, try the following steps:
Start Installer.app
Click on Sources
Click on Edit button, then Add button
Enter this URL: http://iphone.r4m0n.net/repos
iPhysics should now appear in Installer.app
My iPhysics appears in its own category as ‘iPhysics’. If you’re having trouble locating it, or making it available in your installer.app, let me know and I’ll be glad to help.
