Fun Stuff, iPhone

While the new iPhone 3G went on sale in New Zealand, Australia and Japan over night, Auckland student Jonny, 22, had been first in line outside the Auckland store since Tuesday after being dared by friends who promised to pay for his phone if he lasted the distance in the queue. Greg Packer, aka iPhone Jonny completed his goal last night of becoming the first to get a retail-sold iPhone 3G.

“I’m going to go home, put this on charge, have a play with it and have a nice big sleep,” Gladwell told Television New Zealand after securing one of the first iPhones sold in the world.

iPhone Jonny documented his whole experience on his blog. Everything from the final hours, sleeping and even shaving are detailed. Its actually pretty interesting, check it out.

Well everyone, goodluck to all buying an iPhone today & especially to those who waited hours in line outside!! I hope all your efforts have paid off!

iPhone

Japanese iPhone 3GWhen I read this I gasped… Ok, not really, but I was a little bit shocked.

In a survey of internet users in Japan from age 20 to 49, it found that 91% of the 402 responses indicated no plans of buying the 3G iPhone. The survey was conducted June 5th and 6th of this year.

I wouldn’t take these numbers too seriously however. You have to take into consideration that the survey was taken well before the WWDC keynote which revealed pricing points of the iPhone 3G. At the price point it is sitting at… One would have to think it would have changed a few minds…. Not to mention all of the features that were announced at the keynote…

I’d like to see the survey taken again to see what effect the keynote announcements had on Japanese consumers!

In Japan, Softbank Mobile Corporation will carry the iPhone 3G. Only 22.9% of the people surveyed were on that carrier. Should be interesting to see how much they gain (or lose) once the iPhone 3G is available in the country.
