How To's, iPhone

Taking a screenshot with iPhone 2.0 FirmwareIn the iPhone 2.0 update, there are lots of cool things to find and explore. However, one of the coolest is the brand-new screenshot capability. It allows you to take a picture of what’s on your iPhone’s display at any time. This was possible via other 3rd party apps on older firmware, but now that the feature is built into the OS… it’s minty.

To take a screenshot, all you need to do is press your home button at the bottom of the iPhone, and the power button at the same time. That’s it. Note that you only need to click the buttons quickly at the same time to get this to work. You’ll know you were successful when the screen flashes white.

To view your screenshots, simply go into your photos and view your camera roll. Your new screenshots will appear there as soon as you take them.

Cool huh!?

Well, there is a solution that is something you probably should do with sensitive data anyway - put these files into an encrypted disk image.

Let’s work with an example - I’ll use Smurfs, which obviously I’d be really embarrassed if my wife saw on my machine while she scrolled through Cover Flow. Let’s put these little beauties into an encrypted disk image!

How To's

Here’s a nifty little shortcut I stumbled upon today. My apologies if you’ve already tried this one, but I thought it was pretty cool!

If you go into your System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse… Click on the Mouse tab at the top.

Down at the very bottom of this window you’ll see ‘Zoom using scroll ball while holding…’ and then a drop down menu of key selections. Leave the CTRL button selected (or choose another key, it’s really your personal preference).
