Lines Forming Outside NYC Cube Store for the iPhone 3GYou can’t make stuff like this up. Seems that a small-ish group of people have started camping outside of the NYC Cube store in an effort to break the Guinness World Record for ‘waiting in line to buy something’… Sounds a little obscure to me, and I don’t even know if that’s an established record… but there you have it. At any rate, it looks like a group of about 10 or so people started waiting back on July 4th in anticipation of the new iPhone 3G. Once Friday rolls around, they will have been waiting for one week. Insane.

If there are any readers from NYC out there, I would LOVE it if you could get me some pictures, video or even an interview with these folks. I’d be happy to have a little phone interview with ‘em :) Those crazy kids…

More pictures and an interview with the group’s ‘leader’, over at Engadget >

Apple Store Down as Predicted

Almost on command, the Apple store is now down in preparation for the WWDC Keynote announcements. Look for the store to be back up sometime shortly after the keynote (10AM PST), and look for it to be updated with all the new goodies announced during the Keynote.

Big day for Apple. Big day for the next gen iPhone. Stay tuned!

The iMac Line has been Updated!

As reported last week, it was rumored that a newer iMac line would be launched this week. Well, right on cue (in fact, a little early) Apple has done just that. The new iMacs have been launched and they are bigger and more powerful than ever.

Faster CPU and GPU options are available. 2.4GHz or 2.66GHz are available on the 20″ model… and 2.8GHz and 3.06GHz are available on the larger 24″ model.

New graphics options are also available. You can choose between the ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro (256 MB) or the NVidia GeForce 8800 GS (512MB) in the 24″ iMac. The 20″ model still has the ATI Radeon HS 2400 XT available… But if you fork out another $300 you can upgrade to an ATI HD 2600 Pro, another 260MHz and 70GB of extra hard drive space.

Pricing starts at $1,199 and $1,499 for the 20″ models, and $1,799 and $2,199 for the 24″ models. All systems still come standard with the good ‘ol Apple Remote

Apple Stores coming to Phoenix and Leicester ifoAppleStore is reporting that Apple will open a 4th Apple store in the Phoenix area. The new store will be northwest of downtown at the Arrowhead Towne Center Mall and is due to open by this October. The new store will be approximately 20 miles from the existing Biltmore store located in central Phoenix. Congrats Phoenix area Apple lovers!

Also coming soon will be a new Apple store in the Midlands of the UK with a new store in the Highcross Leicester development in Leicester. The new development looks quite snazzy, with residential, retail and entertainment sections. The idea here is to revitalize the city. The new store here is scheduled to open on September 4th.

New MacBook's and MacBookPro's in the Apple Store

In their usual Tuesday store update, Apple has added new MacBooks and MacBook Pros to the Apple store.

The new models have the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors, larger hard drives and 2GB of memory standard on most models.

The MacBook Pro also includes the latest NVIDIA graphics processors, up to 512MB of video memory, and a multi-touch trackpad.

If you just purchased a MacBook or MacBook Pro, now might be a good time to pick up the phone and call Apple (if you missed these lower prices/updates). We just picked up a new MacBook here at Mactropolis last week, and Apple generously rebated $200 to our credit card (We added roughly $150 of updates to the MacBook that are now included in the base price… plus, the same MacBook is now $50 cheaper in the store).

Good on Apple for doing this (as they should). Would be very interested to hear if anyone else out there has had a similar experience!

$100 Price Drop for iPhone and iPod TouchRumors have it that the iPhone and iPod Touch will see $100 price drops in the coming months. At the same time, the lower capacity models (8GB iPhone and 8GB iPod Touch) may be discontinued.

With the discontinuation of the lower capacity models, this would leave the 16GB iPhone at $399 and the 16GB iPod Touch at $299. The 32GB Touch would go for $399.

At the moment this is all rumor so take it as you will. The main source (9to5mac) has had a decent success rate in the rumor department. If this one is true, I certainly hope there is not the same outcry as we had from early iPhone adopters… With the $200 price drop and discontinuation of the 4GB iPhone…Prompting Steve Jobs to give early adopters a $100 store credit.
