Hardware, Rumors

Fudzilla is reporting that sources close to NVIDIA  are saying a recent report that claimed Apple would be dropping NVIDIA based chip designs due to manufacturing flaws, is false and the two companies’ relationship is “just fine”. Here’s an excerpt:

Apple is still buying Nvidia notebook chips and chipsets and nothing has changed in the last few weeks. Nvidia and Jensen [NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang] himself have a lot of respect for fuss maker Apple, and therefore this relationship has top priority for Nvidia people.

The previous report claimed Apple was fed up with manufacturing flaws in the NVIDIA chips and planned to drop all NVIDIA designs for at least 3 or 4 years. The claim’s credibility was compounded with the recent lawsuits between NVIDIA and Intel over licensing disagreements of Intel’s Nehalem chip architecture.

This will be interesting to watch unfold. I don’t suspect Apple will drop NVIDIA, or at least not entirely. The only reason I see them possibly dropping NVIDIA, is to ensure good relations with Intel while litigations continue between Intel and NVIDIA.
