Rumors, iPod

Wired.com is claiming that the next-gen iPod Touch will feature a built-in video camera and microphone.

Here’s an excerpt:

A well-connected source tells us those rumors are on the money, and that Apple?s factories in China are already manufacturing iPod Touch models with integrated cameras and microphones. An Apple spokesman declined to comment when reached by phone.

The current iPod Touch models can utilize a microphone, but an external accessory is required. The inclusion of a built-in microphone would essentially make the iPod Touch a Wi-Fi mobile phone.
I almost buy the camera bit of this rumor. As you may recall, there have been previous rumors suggesting that next-gen Touches and Nanos will have a built-in camera. That said, I don’t believe there will be a microphone included in the new Touch. The main reason being that this would further dissolve the separation between the iPhone and iPod Touch product lines. I don’t believe Apple wants to eat into their iPhone profits with an iPhone wannabe.

For simply $25, a headset with a microphone works on an iPod Touch without any certification required.

One still avoids data plans which saves enough to buy any upgrades.

The video capability is the move that takes the iPod Touch to warp speeds.

Apple does not care about cannibalization as long as they are doing it:D
