Homer Simpson Desktop Wallpaper Mactropolis Forums Coming Soon…

Dec 29

Word is that developers have received their first pre-release build of Mac OS X 10.5.2 updater… and it’s not a small one. The update comes in at over 350MB. Yikes!

Apparently updates and changes have been made to Finder, iCal, iChat, Mail, Safari and Time Machine. Other fixes for Rosetta and AirPort are included as well.

One interesting update that I’m eager to see involves stacks. Apparently the new feature allows you to provide a ‘list’ view reminiscent of the traditional hierarchical style display of files and folders.

Look for this update in January… Possibly during MacWorld.

I doubt that the changes to stacks weigh in at 350 Mb. I guess that a lot will change under the hood, hopefully optimization.

10.5 is a train wreck in so many ways and the .1 update didn’t address much.

    Note to Mr Jobs-
In future releases, concentrate on real features instead of eye candy and do not change what is not broken. I’d much rather have had ZFS than stacks, Front Row 2, the messed up Firewall Interface, dotMac crap, etc. Please, while you are at it, fix the Firewall interface in System Prefs and let me turn stacks off.

Hmm. This is a bit out of date. About a month ago the developers were seeded with the first builds of 10.5.2, and it weighed in at 350MB. It is very common for prerelease builds to be very large and shrink as time goes on and release approaches.

A Note to DAG: If you were paying attention, there was much more that went on under the hood than over. While I too would have loved ZFS, the FS daemon rewrite more than makes up for its loss. Chances are, and reports are showing, that you will be able to in fact use stacks and turn them off (currently, you can obviously turn off stacks by not creating them).

I just hope they update coreimage to allow for the new Nikon D300 to work in iPhoto and Aperture.

10.5 was a great update. Train is running fine. Don’t be shallow. You’d rather have features that Apple never promised or even hinted at? You’re weird. Oh, and you can turn stacks off, not sure what OS you’re looking at

stacks is great for creating shortcut folders and organizing apps on the dock with it. I love it. Narrow mndd people hate change.
