A Mexican newspaper has reported that the iPhone could be headed to Mexico as soon as June. Apple is apparently in talks with the Mexican telecom giant Telcel. A number of calls have been made to Apple US customer support, and they were told that while iPhones cannot be currently shipped to Mexico, the phone should become available in Mexico for June.
On the Canadian front, member mpancha recently commented in the forums about a talkitive Rogers employee. It’s all heresay and rumor of course, but the employee basically told mat that he should be patient because the iPhone would be in Canada come June. Check out the thread here.
I certainly hope both rumors are true. Would be nice to have the iPhone up and running across all of North America!
What do you think?

As excited as i am to have the iPhone available in Canada (not that it wasn\’t too difficult to bring one in from the States), I\’m more excited about the data plans that will be offered. I hope that we will now have similar pricing structures to the US. I\’ve got a BlackBerry & Rogers is killing me with additional costs, surcharges, hidden charges, etc. I’m calling them each month to dispute & correct my bill. JUST GIVE ME UNLIMITED DOWNLOAD FOR ONE PRICE!!!… just like our neighbors down south!

From what I know about the Canadian telecom industry, Bell pretty much owns every bit of copper up here, and everyone (Telus and Rogers) leases from them. Because of this, we’re pretty much screwed. Hopefully with the spectrum that’s being auctioned, a new competitor will join the mix forcing lower prices, but we’ll see what the future holds.
Of course, my bit about Bell owning it all is based on nothing but my own findings, but if someone knows better, I would love to know what is actually holding up our lower prices, not just on data plans but voice. The plans here are a joke and hurt especially after spending my life living in the US.
