Software, iPhone

Apple’s iPhone security-related patent filings described a new piece of software that would notify a security agent in the event of the handset being lost or stolen. This process would then lead to a police officer being dispatched to the current location via GPS coordinates of the phone.

The phone would be placed into “prevention” mode when it detects a force that exceeds a predetermined threshold. When in prevention mode, the phone would send out a secutiry transmission which security personel would receive. The security entity would then either dispatch an officer or call the devices owner.

This whole thing sounds kinda funny. It will most likely be a feature that will cost extra. The security feature doesn’t seem to be well thought at all. Who is to say that everytime a phone is stolen it is going to withstand a certain threshold? There is such a thing as a sneaky theif who might slide your phone into their pocket. This just seems like a good feature for someone who has very important top secret information on their phone.
