When I first installed Battlefield 2142 on my new iMac I was quite disappointed. It took me a few tries to get it to open at all and then when I did open it the EA and Dice intro videos didn’t work and it took me a while to figure out that after the intro I had to press “esc” to get anything to show up.
Earlier this week an update was released and I was hoping to see if this fixed my problems, but it only made them worse. The update was PC only, so I couldn’t play against anyone using a PC anymore and the list of servers got smaller and smaller.
Now EA finally released a Mac update. This new update includes some major improvements. The intro videos work, and it includes a new map to play on. The update also fixed many reliability issues so hopefully people who haven’t been able to get the game to work should get it to work now.
But even with the few disappointments I am very happy to be able to play Battlefield once again! Now if only the next update would add widescreen. If you want to download the update you can get it at Apple Downloads here.

Hi, I just bought this game and it wont even open. Downloaded the patch to see if it would make it work, but no… Any ideas as to how i can fix it? My mac meets all the system requirements so thats not an issue. Many thanks

This game is very good. I have one mac in my home so I was waiting for this update. Ben post this in mac or battlefield 2142 forum.

Hopefully it will allow offline play without the need to log onto an EA server just to start the game.

I just bought the game, and it works fine on my macbook (white). I have 1 gig of ram, and plenty of space in my hard drive. But It sometimes lags alittle bit when a air strike bomb hits right in front of you. But other then that, the game is beautiful and tons of fun! As for you Ben, Your problem might be in the amount of space left on your mac. You should have at least 10 GB of free space, or you will experience a great amount of problems, such as taking too long to load a map/ game, graphics problems, etc. I would try buying a portable hard drive (you can buy a really nice one at Costco for $40) and put your documents, etc stored in there, that way you will have space. You just have to have at least 1 GIG of ram, a good connection, and at least 10 GB of free space on your hard drive. The game is neat. But it does need a patch. so just google it up (beware of leechers, so you should download a patch from the battlefield 2142 website)
Cheers.

hey there, I recently bought the game too after reading all the good reviews and all but i have since given up on the game completely! It crashes my MacBook Pro, the game crashes without warning and when it does work, it contrives to get me kicked outta servers by PunkBuster! And I haven’t changed a single thing/modded/cheated! Extremely frustrating (and yes, this was after spending an hour trying to update it)… The game is nice, if only it would work

If you need help I can help, you have to re-install it on another mac user if it wont load the game and when it does make sure you have a usable user name or a new pin

Originally this game didn’t work for me, much to my sadness. Having just purchased an 8 Core early 2008 Mac Pro with an 8800GT graphics card and 10GB RAM, I was wondering why it kept asking me to insert the DVD when obviously, it was there in the drive.
After a few days of tinkering, I realised that the game worked when I had the disc in the top drive, not the bottom.
So in summary, the only way I got this game to work was to have the DVD in the top superdrive, not the bottom. Hope this helps someone.

I installed the update, and now it tells me that I need to revert to the official version to play on any servers.. It seems to think I hacked it. I even tried reinstalling everything, deleting prefs, etc to no avail. >:(

What the hell?
And if I have only one superdrive?
BF2142 doesn’t work for me, it wants me to put the dvd in.
I run MacBook pro with 2,4 GHz C2D and 2 GB of RAM. I’m pretty mad… Does anyone have the same problem? Please, help…
Term // 30/03/2008 at 10:56 am
Michal, your MacBook Pro will run 2142 fine, don’t worry about the superdrive thing. The only reason he had that problem is that he does have 2 superdrives, and 1 is primary and 2 is slave.
BUT, you say you are getting the same issue? Lets go through the installation process.
1. insert the 2142 dvd
2. open it and drag the 2142 icon into your applications
3 after it finishes copying files, download and install the update (patch 1.40)
4. GOTO applications, (not the dvd) and double click on 2142, and it will run.
the download of the patch is here:

anyone have any idea as to why when i play BF2142 on my 2.2GHz macbook core duo there are no buildings, terrain, players, etc.? game starts fine but my player is the only thing i can see (oh, and trees). it’s like he’s in some misty limbo.

i have the white MacBook all the ram needed etc. and my battlefield 2142 wont work! it will start and then close. when it opens it tells me that the graphics are not supported but im running OS X 10.4.11 so it should be working…right?
however im using a GMA 950 chipset model apparently that doesnt support the graphics or something!…im rather confused!
i downloaded the update thinking that would iron out the problem but it doesnt seem to have done anything..
has anyone got any advice or help to get the game running?

I have exactly the same problem as General Vague. I have a 2.2 Macbook and the game “plays” with no buildings or other team members visible. Is like being in a fog and obviously pointless. Have installed the 1.4 patch and my OS is up to date but all to no avail. Anyone have any tips? Could it be my DVD drive is not functioning correctly?
Trent // 27/04/2008 at 10:34 am
Does anyone know if it will work in a brand new 2.4ghz MacBook w/2gb of ram? It has an intel gma x3100 with 144mb of video ram total.

If you can’t see the buildings or rather anything else try changing the screen resolution that worked for me.

I am losing my mind.
Ever since updating to BF 1.50, I have been constantly punkbusted out of play no matter what I do.
I have already done the following things:
- re-installed BF with both patches incrementally (twice) with proper un-install both times
- checked in ’show package contents’ (there is never a pb folder in there on any of my install attempts, or anywhere else that I can find for that matter)
- installed pbsetup (I can add the game but then when I tell it to update it runs through a whole lot of things and then still says that there is no punkbuster installed - I dont know if running pb setup actually installs pb or what?)
- endlessly trawling through ever balance’s DREADFUL website that has absolutely no instructions at all - totally heinous
- downloading ever balance updates
- tried putting the pb folder in the package contents folder
- lodged 3 x tickets with ever balance and they keep sending me instructions for vista even though I have repeatedly told them I am on OSX 10.5
NOTHING WORKS.
Please help if you know anything cos I was really loving this game (and getting pretty good at it too!!)

hey everyone i have a problem. When i go onto the server list i only get 32 servers and all of them never have any players on them so i never get to play online so i cant get upgrades, award or anything. When i try to log on to another server it says my client link from EA is too old to play on the server. When i get onto the start screen it says an update is available so it takes me to EA website but it doesnt tell me which update it is. Is there an update for a new client list? My computer specs are definitely high enough i just dont know what is wrong. I need urgent help!
ryan // 16/10/2008 at 3:41 am
I am also getting the same problem as RADAS. I cant update anything because it says the files have been modified please re-install in the middle of the Update. This is game is so screwed up sometimes.
