To my horror I’ve recently found out that if you want to become an Apple Certified professional in anything, you’ll have to either fly to Toronto to take classes and/or write the exam… OR, pay to have an instructor sent out to your location to administer the course.
As a Canadian seeking mac certification, this very much dissapointed me. There is a huge mac following in major Canadian centers all over the country, and Apple is really missing the boat here. Unfortunately not all of us are able to pay our way to fly to Toronto for certification.
The sad reality as I see it, is we won’t see Apple training centers in Canadian locales until Apple Stores hit the individual markets.
Apple is planning to open some new stores in Vancouver soon, and in addition to the stores in Toronto and Montreal this could be good news. I’d look for training centers to open up in Montreal, shortly followed by Vancouver once they are settled in.
For the rest of us all the way from Victoria to Halifax, it still means we’re out of luck until the retail biz moves in. That is, unless you’re willing to shell out some coin to go and get your certification.

I too have been looking into Apple certified training here in Vancouver or elsewhere, it would have been helpful if you had placed links to the Toronto training information and the written test information.
How about it?
Cheers, Steve

While I do recognise that there’s a large part of Canada between Vancouver and Toronto, you can also take Apple Certified courses and exams at Emily Carr Institute (http://www.eciad.ca/cs/aatc) in Vancouver, BC.

Jonathan from Vancouver runs a great Apple training center. In addition, my company, Business Rules, Inc., based in upstate New York, will be offering IT training classes from time to time in 2008 under the Witz umbrella. Should you have any further questions, please see my website: http://www.businessrulesinc.com

Splice Training in Halifax NS is a great AATC. Though I agree with you Mr Mayor, this country needs more!

I am the “default” IT guy at my mac only workplace (small 5-8 person theatre) and I just had a visit with a mac genius at the new Pacific Centre Apple Store in Vancouver. I asked about training and getting certified and he has brought it to the “business group” within the store, of which he is a part of. He left a voice message and I still have to get back to him, but it sounds like they are starting to invest in this area soon - he also mentioned that they are re-tooling all their certifications so they were waiting until that was complete before they rolled it out.
