Newest iPhone 3GS Ad Shows Off Video Editing

Apple has begun airing a third new ad in their iPhone 3GS series. This spot highlights how easy it is to shoot, trim and send video on the new device.

The whole ad is based around filming a skater, editing the crash landing, and finally sending the footage to someone via email, all on the iPhone 3GS. You can watch the ad in it’s entirety here.

I thought it was a good ad, but certainly not Apple’s best. I’m no marketing expert though.

Apple Releases Two new Ads for iPhone 3GS

Apple has posted two ads on their site late this evening. Both ads follow a similar scheme as the iPhone 3G ads, except these now have a different tune playing in the background.

The first ad, advertises the copy and paste feature. Starting by copying a phone number to a text and ending with the copying of a map to an email. Needless to say, this feature isn’t exclusive to the iPhone 3GS and comes with the iPhone 3.0 software. I find it odd that Apple would even try to use this as a selling point.

The second ad shows off voice control. They start the ad by asking the phone to call Dave Taylor. Then they ask “Play songs by Jack Johnson”. Voice control is actually an iPhone 3GS exclusive feature, and this ad does a great job of showing you what you can do with it in a 30 seconds.

You can find the ads here and here.

Burning Question: Can You Swallow the iPod Shuffle?

I know that’s a burning question that has been eating away at you, right? Can the new iPod Shuffle be swallowed? (sound the sarcasm alarm) The folks over at Gizmodo enlisted the services of Coney Island Circus sword-swallower Heather Holiday, and the rest is history. No further comment from me needed here… you can check out the video below.

Steve Wozniak to Star in ‘Footloose’ Remake

Apparently there’s a remake of the movie ‘Footloose’ in the works. High School Musical star Zac Effron decided to give the film a big ol snub, but thankfully the one and only WOZ has stepped in. Check out the video above. Ahhhh Kimmel. Hilarious.

Thanks Chuck!

GarageBand, Powerful Indeed

GarageBand was first introduced in the 2004 Macworld Keynote, where the whole app was explained, so if you are a recent mac user you might not be aware about the true power GarageBand has. Here is a list of all the main features it has:

  1. Has more than 50 software instruments.
  2. You have piano, guitar, horns, drums, and more, which you get to play with your keyboard. And something really cool about this is that all the guitar tracks can work as an amp with different effects when plugging in your guitar.

  3. Over 1,000 professional audio loops (way more if you buy Jam Packs).
  4. This one is really cool, if you don’t have time to make each instrument’s track, you can just insert loops of really nice instruments into your project.

  5. You have total control.
  6. You can control the volume of all the instruments, mute them if you need to concentrate in a single track, drag and drop almost everything, copy and paste, edit each track with the Track Editor, etc.

  7. You can use your guitar, midi keyboard, microphone, and guitar hero or rock band controllers to live record.
  8. All you need to do is plug your instrument to your mac, and something that is not officially supported by Apple, but a really cool thing to do is to use your Guitar Hero or Rock Band controllers to play tracks, all you need is to download some software and drivers (which don’t take long to set up and all) and you are ready to go. So you can use your mac pretty much as an amp plus being able to record and then export your project into iTunes.

  9. Make professional Podcasts.
  10. I guess this one is pretty much straight-forward.

  11. You can learn to play guitar and piano.
  12. I’m pretty sure you already know about this one, since it’s the latest feature of GarageBand. You can download lessons from talented artists for a fair price, and have a great learning experience, I would recommend you to see it yourself by visiting Apple’s GarageBand site.

So there you go, go ahead and try to make a trance song, some rock, or just good old jazz. I’m pretty sure you can find a tutorial for almost any genre online, YouTube has good videos showing how to create awesome stuff.

Concept Video From Apple Shows Off Ideal Fantasy Design (Circa 1987)

Back in the day, Apple created the concept video above to inspire and pump-up staff. Check it out, it’s quite interesting. It features the ‘Apple Knowledge Navigator’ and plays out an ‘ideal fantasy design’ as according to Apple at the time.

Concept videos were (and are) often used for these reasons. Shoot for the moon, and then pull back a bit and develop something for real world use. Any way you slice it, the video above was pretty darn good for 1987.

Apple Launches New Web Ad on NYTimes.com and Other Major Websites

Apple has gone ahead and launched a new web ad which focuses on the ‘World’s Greenest Family of Notebooks’ theme. The unibody 17″ MacBookPro is the star of the ad, which can be found running on NYTimes.com and other major websites right now.

Wish I could shell out the cashola for the 17″… She looks sweet. However, my trusty 15″ MBP is still doing me just fine, thank you.

Video of Rumored Next Gen Mac Mini Surfaces

A new video has surfaced on the web (above) that claims to show-off the next generation Mac mini. The video gives you a brief tour of the device from all sides. No telling if this is the real deal or not, but this video does seem to show some video proof of a revamped Mac mini photo as posted by MacRumors member ‘monthy’ a little while ago.

Check out the video above for a closer look at the wrap-around aluminum enclosure, white plastic top, slot load drive and all of the same features you’ve come to love in the mini. It looks like a fifth USB port is now integrated, and a full-size DVI video connector has replaced the Mini DisplayPort and mini DVI…Oh, and there looks to be FireWire 800 instead of 400.

Take this for what its worth. I’m sure we’ll be hearing more come WWDC in June.
