iTunes 7.6.1 Update

Today, Apple released iTunes 7.6.1 via the Software Update utility. You can see the details of the iTunes update above.

The iTunes update details:

Rent and download your favorite movies with iTunes on your computer or directly to your living room on Apple TV. Enjoy rented movies in sizes up to 720p HD with surround sound on your Apple TV and sizes up to DVD-quality on your computer. Transfer your rented movies from iTunes to your iPod or iPhone and enjoy them on the go.

Also, purchase and download your favorite TV shows, music, and more directly on your Apple TV. Effortlessly transfer purchases made on Apple TV back to your computer with iTunes.

iTunes 7.6.1 includes several bug fixes and improves compatibility with Apple TV software version 2.0.

…And as you can see in the image above I still have a few other updates to install. A Compressor Update, Keyboard Firmware Update and a small Leopard Graphics Update. Check your software updates by clicking the Apple > Software Update… I’m going to run my updates right now!

Time Machine Added to Menu Bar in 10.5.2

One of the more handy updates I found immediately after installation of OS X 10.5.2 was the addition of Time Machine to the menu bar. Simply click on the time machine logo, and you can administer your Time Machine settings, view when your last backup took place, browse other Time Machine disks and more. A very handy little update indeed. Two thumbs up!

If you haven’t installed 10.5.2 yet, simply run ’software update…’ from the Apple menu to get started.

Mac OS X 10.5.2 Update AvailableOS X 10.5.2 update is now available and contains plenty of improvements and fixes. When I say plenty, I mean PLENTY! Many other Apple blogs out there are saying that this update ’shows Apple listens to its users’. I have to agree.

Here are some of the more notable updates in 10.5.2:

  • Improves connection reliability and stability of Airport and resolves certain kernel panics.
  • Updates Stacks with a List view option, a Folder view option, and an updated background for Grid view.
  • Addresses legibility issues with the menu bar with an option to turn off transparency in Desktop & Screen Saver preferences.
  • The computer will now shut down if an automatic disk repair does not succeed during startup.
  • Adds a menu bar option for accessing Time Machine features (the menu extra can be enabled in Time Machine preferences).
  • Addresses issues in which some external drives are not recognized by Time Machine.

To install, I simply recommend you use Software Update. Click the Apple menu in the top left of your screen and select ‘Software Update’. Easy as pie!

As I had reported previously, 10.5.2 is rumored to be coming out soon. However, these hopes might be dashed. It looks like Mac OS X 10.5.2 is not quite ready for prime time. The seeds released last week had no big reported issues… However it looks as though they want to work on it some more.

Earlier today Apple provided developers with the 9C27 seed.

Since the launch of Leopard, this is the most anticipated update yet. There had been one minor update 3 weeks after the Leopard launch… But since then the developers have been working hard on 10.5.2.

I’ll continue to keep an eye on this! Can’t wait for 10.5.2!

Mac OS X 10.5.2 Arriving ShortlyAll signs point to 10.5.2 coming out shortly. Apple has seeded another build to developers. The build comes in at 9C23 (previous build was 9C20, and was issued to developers only 2 days ago) and does offer a number of fixes to DVD Playback and File Systems among other things. Apple has commented that there are ‘no known issues’ with this seed of 10.5.2.

Some key features and fixes for Mac OS X 10.5.2:

- World of Warcraft fix (no AirDisk backups)
- Optional Transparent Menu Bar
- DVD/CD Sharing
- List View in Stacks

Can’t wait to see the little update icon bouncing in my dock. It’s only a matter of time now.

Leopard 10.5.2 Coming SoonThe Leopard 10.5.2 update is coming any minute… and frankly I can’t wait. I’ve been having troubles with a network hard drive (wasn’t getting picked up by Time Machine)… but this update addresses that (so I’ve heard!)

Some key updates in 10.5.2:

  • DVD/CD Sharing (remember the Macbook Air demo at Macworld?)
  • Time Machine backups to a network drive
  • Stacks update…List, folder and grid views
  • Translucent menu bar option in displays

Can’t wait to get this update! I want to resurrect my network drive from the dead :)

Anyone else out there having issues backing up to a network drive with Time Machine?
