The Digital LifestyleToday, The Digital Lifestyle has launched a new page featuring video reviews of all current iPod games. The Digital Lifestyle reports that this is a new branching out for the site, and they are also going to try and review as many iPhone games and apps as possible.

Says Ryan Ritchey, founder of TDL:

“Since most of the games are short, we didn’t want to make ten minute reviews…It was interesting to see the difference in the quality of the games. Some are great, and some are downright awful.”

They even reviewed my favorite iPod game, ‘Mini Golf’. According to them, the game is too small and has many limitations. Imagine my disappointment to read this review! Oh well, the game isn’t for everyone.

We want to wish TDL the best of luck, and hope things continue to go well for them in the future… even though their Mini Golf game review wasn’t favorable… I’ll let that slide.

To watch the reviews, visit The Digital Lifestyle >

Apple Updates iPod Gaming CatalogBig changes to the Apple games catalog on the iTunes Store!

Zuma from PopCap has been added to the list of games compatible with Nanos and Classics… However (and sadly) many other games has had their section removed. These include: Bejeweled, Mahjong, Lost, iQuiz, Mini Golf, Musika, Royal Solitaire and Vortex.

The remaining games are hidden from the public, only available for download through your old backdoor links from different websites. I’m not privy to any of these old links… But by all means if you know of some, post them here as I’m sure many of our readers will want them (Including me!).

One can only suspect that with the new app store and 3G iPhone coming soon, Apple is busy cleaning up their games and other sections in the iTunes store prior to launch. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see these games pop back up again once the app store launches, but what the heck do I know. I certainly hope Mini Golf comes back, or at least a new, better version of the game comes out. That was always one of my favorites :)

The Purple iPod Nano

Could it be true, or simply bad color in a print ad? The ad above is from a Minneapolis-St. Paul Circuit City ad today.

Lets all wait for the Apple store update this Tuesday to see if it magically appears.

Any bets? :)

The Microsoft ZuneLast week, Mr. Jobs was being interviewed by CNBC’s Jim Goldman when he was asked about the threat posed to the iPod by the Vole’s famous mp3 player, the Zune.

His response was to ask ‘Do you even know anyone who owns a Zune?’

Well, I’d like to say that I do, so there! And they love it. They say that it’s brilliant. It works excellently, is stylish, the sound is incredible and the battery life is out of this world.

I’d like to say all of that.

The thing is, I know a lot of people who really like Microsoft’s products. Real Microsoft fans. We tend not to stay in the same room for longer than entirely possible - they just end up getting too defensive.

Well, the thing is… it’s like this…

I don’t really know anybody with a Zune. I’m sure I probably do. Statistically, I must. Or, at least, I know someone who knows someone who has a Zune. Maybe. My LinkedIn network has lots of people on it - almost 2.5 million at the third degree (friends of friends of friends - or something). Some of those on the second degree work for Microsoft for crying out loud. One of them must have a Zune. I’m sure that walking around the Richmond campus listening to your iPod would be a hanging offence. So they must have a Zune. But the thing is, nobody has actually told me about it.

You know the way that your friends who have an iPhone or an iPod Touch or even just a new iPod, you know the way they ‘let you know’? That’s never happened to me with the Zune. Which is a little odd because someone must have one. And someone must like them.

Actually, I want the Zune to be good - well, better than it is now. I want it to be an innovative product. Something that stretches the boundaries of what we expect from a media player. I want some competition from Microsoft. Actually, it can come from anyone but they seem to have the most money to throw at this one.

The Zune being fundamentally unloved and, let’s assume, a bit useless is not good for Apple or for us as end users. Apple could become complacent. The iPod could become flabby. Anything could happen.

By buying something that has been panned and ridiculed, Zune owners are standing up for competition and the improvement of media players for us all. It’s exactly the same process that has led to Mac OSX being so much better than Windows Vista - except that at all stages, Apple got there first and did it better.

So, if you see or hear of anyone with a Zune, don’t mock them. Instead take a photo and keep it safe - as a constant reminder of what could have been.

New Mac Games from Ambrosia - Aquaria Today Ambrosia released some new information on the Mac port of Aquaria, an underwater adventure made by Bit Blot. They announced that a new build is almost ready for beta. Also this build is currently playable at their Macworld booth.

Also EA has announced that Spore, the much anticipated new Will Wright game, will be released simultaneously on Mac and PC.

With all the keynote news it is easy to miss the small Apple updates. While browsing the iTunes store I noticed a slight change. Near the bottom of the main page was a little icon that read, “Pole Position Remix: Game Just added”. Could this be an iPod version of the classic Pole Position arcade game? Maybe. So I clicked this button and headed to the iPod games section, which showed no Pole Position Remix.

Another game added today was Block Breaker Deluxe, by Gameloft. Which is mostly Brick with some special features. But doesn’t look like anything very special.

iDiamond: A Girl's Best FriendWhile flying to Norway last month, I noticed an ad of an unusual iPod shuffle in the flight magazine. It was an iPod shuffle encrusted in 430 diamonds! And let me tell you… it does not come cheap. You can pick one up for $41,000 USD!

Which things can you buy with that amount of money today? Well, you could buy 520 shuffle iPods or even a car! This iPod was designed by a Norwegian jeweler called Heyerdahl. Their website also says that the iPod is made of 18 carat white and pink gold. They also say the iPod will be donated to a charity cause auction in London in March 2008.

In case you are the modern guy who would like to propose to someone with an iDiamond, instead of the ubiquitous diamond ring… And in case you don’t have THAT kind of money, you can still buy one for around $600 USD! This cheaper more ‘affordable’ one is found at a jeweler in the United Kingdom: John Harrington.

So hurry! Diamonds are still a girl’s best friend, I mean iPods are still a girl’s best friend! Or is that both?
