Apple Releases Three New “Get a Mac” Ads

Apple has released three new “Get a Mac” ads this evening. They should begin airing shortly.

The first ad is “Customer Care” and has PC reminiscing his support call escapades. Hilarity ensues.

Next up is “Elimination” wherein a customer named Megan is looking to buy a new PC. PC is standing with a line of othe PCs behind him. As Megan runs downs the list of things she wants in her computer PC tells the other machines to leave that doen’t fit her requirements. She comes to the part of the list that no PC can stand up to, she wants a machine “… without crashing, viruses or a ton of headaches”. All of the PCs leave. “Elimination” seems like a retaliation against Microsoft’s recent attack ads.

Lastly is “PC Choice Chat” where PC is sitting at a desk with headphones on, he is now a radio DJ. PC is hosting a radio show where he helps consumers pick the PC that is right for them. He makes the mistake of actually taking phone calls. This is when it gets funny.

You can see the new ads here.

Apple Has Released Four New “Get a Mac” Ads

Apple has released four new “Get a Mac” ads this evening on there site, and they should air shortly.

The first entittled “Biohazard Suit” has PC standing in a, you guessed it, Biohazard suit talking about virusis, in particular alluding to the Conflicker virus.

Next in line is “Legal Copy”, in this ad, every time PC “lies” about the ease of use of PC’s the legal disclosure (fine print)  at the bottom of the screen grows. I thought it was funny.

Next up is “Stacks” here PC is sorting through stacks of photos one by one looking for someone in a picture. Then Mac goes on to explain that in the new iPhoto you can search for faces in your photos via iPhoto ’09’s “Faces” feature.

Lastly is “Time Traveler” where in PC travels into the future to see if PC’s are still plagued with there current problems. Upon arriving PC meats his future self and asks this very question only to have his future self freeze answering his question. I found this one funny as well.

These new ads are well timed to counter Microsoft’s current “Laptop Hunters” ad campaign. However, instead of attacking them head on with facts, they are hitting them with something Microsoft has never had, tasteful humor.  Oddly, they don’t seem to defend themselves from what Microsoft is accusing them of. Steep prices.

New Microsoft Ad Proves Once Again That They Just Don’t Get It.

Microsoft has once again shifted gears and is now trying to paint generic Windows PC’s as an affordable alternative to Macs in this down-turned economy.

Before I dissect the new ad, lets take a look at Microsoft’s recent ad campaigns.

First, Microsoft tried to play everyone as stupid with the Mojave Experiment ad campaign, where they sat down random subjects and showed them an early version of “Windows Mojave” Microsoft’s “next version of Windows.”

Of course the test subjects they bothered to show us were the awestruck ones. Then the Microsoft spokesperson proceeded to tell them they were witnessing the awesomeness of Windows Vista. Then the subjects proceeded to go all bug-eyed on us.

What that ad campaign didn’t do, is allow those same people to use Vista with their own hardware, software and peripherals. I suspect they wouldn’t have been as awestruck.

Next, Microsoft tired to paint a humorous, humble or even “cool” image with a $300 Million ad campaign featuring Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld. This campaign was cut short due to poor public reception.

Lastly, Microsoft put out a mishmash of ads going by the tag-line of Windows Vs. Walls and by the “I’m a PC” catchphrase popularized by Apple’s “Get a Mac” ads. These ads tried to take on an “I can do anything you can do, but better” image, by showing adorable children doing mundane tasks on a Vista PC. They did have decency to leave out the part about doing anything but making there own ads, which were produced on a Mac.

All of these ad campaigns have been used within the last 12 months in rapid succession. If one didn’t work they simply switched to another one.

That brings us full circle to their brand new ad. Microsoft found participants on Craigslist and gave them anywhere from $700 to $2,000 to buy a computer fitting certain criteria, and were told they could keep the computer they picked.

So the ad starts out with a lovely young lady (who is actually an actress, but we’re not supposed to know that)  walking into an Apple store to then promptly walking right back out empty-handed. They then film her saying “I’m just not cool enough to be a Mac person.” The only notebook Apple had that fit her price range was a 13-inch MacBook. Darn it, she said she wanted a 17-inch notebook, so she’s going to get one, consequences be damned.

Granted the “I’m just not cool enough to be a Mac person.” line is supposed to be biting sarcasm, but I don’t think Microsoft realizes yet that they promote the Mac more than Apple does.

She then high-tails it over to Best Buy finds a shiny new HP. Microsoft hands her the money and everyone walks away with what they wanted. She has a new laptop, and Microsoft has a new ad.

Remember those consequences I mentioned? Here comes! The machine she bought did have a 17-inch screen but at the resolution of Apple’s 15-inch MacBook Pro not the full resolution of Apple’s 17-inch MacBook Pro. To put it plainly, the screen isn’t as high resolution as it could/should be.

Well, that can be easily over looked, but what about it’s other short commings compared to the 13-inch MacBook she could have bought? It’s missing wireless 802.11n, fast Gigabit Ethernet, digital audio inputs and outputs, and it weighs nearly 8 pounds. But that doesn’t matter, she got her 17-inch screen. Right?

Simply put, the new ad is a half-baked attempt by a company, that is losing market share, to change it’s public image.

With my hazing I just dealt to Microsoft, I am not criticizing the thousands of brilliant people that work there. I’m criticizing the higher management there. They simply have no taste, and are willing to play the public as too stupid or unconcerned, as to put out such garbage as the new ad, in an attempt to change it’s decaying public image, and bolster falling market share.

What makes this whole thing funny is Macs actually have a lower cost of ownership than PC’s do over the life of the hardware.

This proves to me they just don’t get what they are trying to sell, and who they are trying to sell it to. To quote Daniel Eran Dilger of Roughly Drafted. “Microsoft is a marketing company, not a tech company

Statistics say Mac users eat more healthy??….. wait what!

So looks like apparently the makers of SOYJOY in one of their commercials shows that office working employees prefer the healthy food over the sugar rushing candy, and thats no even the amazing fact, your probably like OMG right now right?

Well they make very clear that they use a Mac for work! I know that’s a jawdropper i went numb for about a minute, so try to eat some nutrition bars and maybe you could end up with a 23-Inch HD cinema display from apple at work…. not really but do eat healthy, like mom said you got to eat your fruits and vegetables tommy.

Heres the video of the commercial so you can take a laugh too, enjoy and have a great day.

SOYJOY Battle of the beans

Get a Mac!

Yesterday Apple released a new ad, on top of the two new ads released on Monday.  These are Apple’s latest response to Microsoft’s pricey ad campaign: I’m a PC.

Pc shown buzzing Mac for saying the 'V' word.

PC shown buzzing Mac for saying the 'V' word.

The first of these ads starts with PC (John Hodgman) telling Mac (Justin Long) that we will no longer refer to Windows as the “dreaded ‘V’ word.”  Whats the ‘V’ word you ask?  Well I would tell you but I might get buzzed just like Mac.  This must be referring to the big bucks campaign labeled “The Windows Mojave Project” where normal people are tricked into thinking ‘Mohave’ is the newest operating system from Microsoft, only to be fooled into running the ‘V’ word.  Be sure to check out this ad, because it is really funny!  You can find it here.

PC dividing his money.

PC dividing his money.

The second is by far my favorite out of the three new ones.  This one shows PC sitting at a desk with an accountant visor and money in three piles.  you can see PC dividing his money into different funds, “Advertising, advertising, advertising…fix Vista.”  This is definitely a stab at Microsoft’s new $300 million ad campaign.  Yes you heard right, Microsoft spent three hundred million dollars on an odd series of ads with many frills that aren’t needed.  Think about the Mac ads for a second, take this one for example.  You have a table, two actors, an accountants hat, piles of , hopefully, fake money, two lights, and a white background and you have some of the most powerful ads in circuit. I recommend you watch this one, it is thoroughly enjoyable.  You can pick it up on the Apple site. or a direct link here.

PC having a bake sale.

PC having a bake sale.

The third is the newest and equally amusing.  This one shows PC yet again at a table, but this time it is covered in baked goods and labeled “Bake Sale.”  This is a response to the second ad, so be sure to watch in order to get the joke.  My favorite part is right after Mac asks PC how much the cupcake is and then takes a bite, “…now you have to pay me because you had a bite.”  Check this one out on the Apple site or directly from here.

Head on over to the Mactropolis Forums to discuss your feelings on the new ads!  I watch them at least once a day, I can’t get enough!
