Apple’s Announces Winner of “Countdown to 10 Billion Songs” Contest

Apple has announced the winner of their “Countdown to 10 Billion Songs” contest. The winner is Louie Sulcer of Woodstock, Georgia who purchased “Guess Things Happen That Way” by Johnny Cash, marking the 10 billionth song downloaded from the iTunes Music store. For this, Sulcer will receive a $10,000 iTunes card.

“We’re grateful to all of our customers for helping us reach this amazing milestone,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of Internet Services. “We’re proud that iTunes has become the number one music retailer in the world, and selling 10 billion songs is truly staggering.”

Even more amazingly, as Rolling Store reports, is that Apple CEO Steve Jobs called to inform and congratulate Sulcer on winning the contest.

When Steve Jobs personally called Woodstock, Georgia native Louie Sulcer to tell him he’d won Apple’s iTunes Store 10 Billion Song Sold contest, Sulcer first thought was that he was being pranked. “He called me and said, ‘This is Steve Jobs from Apple.’ I said, ‘Yeah right,’ ” Sulcer tells Rolling Stone. “I have a son that loves to play tricks and he does that every now and then — calls me and imitates somebody.” After three or four times of asking “Come on now, who is this,” Sulcer realized that his caller ID read simply “Apple,” and only then did he believe that he was the winner of the contest and a $10,000 iTunes card.

10 Billionth Song Downloaded From iTunes

Just a quick update to a story we brought you earlier. About two weeks ago Apple started their “Countdown to 10 Billion Songs” Contest wherein the person who downloads the 10 Billionth song from the iTunes Music Store, will win a $10,000 iTunes certificate. Well, someone downloaded the 10 billionth song today.

No word yet on who the lucky winner is though.

Apple Hits 1 Billion Downloads on the App Store

Apple today hit the 1 billion download mark for it App Store. This milestone comes only nine months after the App Stores opening. To reach the 1 billionth download in only nine months required more than 5.5 million apps to be downloaded each day.

For the past two weeks Apple had been running a promotion for it’s 1 billonth download, with prizes valued at more than $13,000. You could win by either downloading the 1 billionth app or by submiting an online form right after the 999,999,999 app was downloaded.

There has been no word on who the winner is as of yet.

Counting Down: One Billion App Downloads

Apple is holding a sweepstakes for it’s next iTunes milestone- one billion app downloads.

Entry is simple, every time you download an app either via iTunes on Mac or PC, or on an iPhone/iPod touch you are entered. You can also enter the sweepstakes by filling out this page. You can enter up to 25 times a day. The contest begins today and ends when the one billionth app is downloaded.

The prize you ask? Over $13,000 in Apple products which includes: a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card, an iPod touch, a Time Capsule, and a MacBook Pro.That’s a nice prize if I do say so myself.

The app store is apparently seeing a massive boom in daily downloads (guessed to be around five-million downloads a day), because Apple just surpassed the half billion download mark this past January.

When I heard about this, I immediatly remembered a similar sweepstakes Apple held when appraching it’s one-billionth song download back in 2006. Prior to that they held a sweepstakes for the one hundredth-million song download in 2004. All of these contests have had similar prizes, as to the one being offered now.

You can visit Apple’s offical sweepstakes page for more details and a chance to enter.

iPhone wins Telecom Awards for Best Multimedia Phone

Yesterday T-Mobile received 2 important Telecom Awards. The iPhone 3G became to be the winner in the categorie ‘Best Mobile of the Year’. And the T-mobile shops won the Golden Graham, a price for the best telecom retailer.

The iPhone 3G was declared ‘Best Multimedia Phone’ by the audience. Yet the iPhone didn’t win the biggest prize, because their were far more categories than that. The LG Cookie came out to be the best basic phone, the Sony Ericsson C905 was the best camera phone of 2009 and the HTC Touch Diamond was the best design phone.

The best music phone was the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. Samsung got 2 prizes: the Samsung Omnia was both de best smartphone as the phone ‘Over All’.

Eventually every mobile phone manufacturer went home with a prize. Also with the Operators there were prizes for Vodafone, KPN and T-Mobile.

Everyone seems to be a winner, and they all live happely ever after…

Last Chance to Enter Our iPhone 3G Contest!

I’ve been a little slack over the past day or so on the post front. Partly because I’ve been away from the office, and partly because I’m prepping for the big drawing for 2 brand-new iPhones.

If you haven’t entered the contest yet, click here to enter before it’s too late. Cut-off for entries is 12:01AM CST on July 11. (Just after midnight tonight!)

I’m thinking it’s going to be a long night… setting up for the official drawing with everyone’s name entered into the drawing according to the number of times they’ve posted up to the cut-off date… I’m doing the drawing ‘old-school’… Will draw winning names out of some sort of container (haven’t figured that out yet) and will cut up all paper ballots… And YES, it will be on video :) Whew, this is going to be some work :) But worth it!

A final good luck and THANK YOU to everyone that has entered… And again, if you haven’t entered yet, click here for more details.
