Steve Jobs Photographed Leaving Apple Campus

It’s been awhile since we’ve seen the one-and-only Steve Jobs in public… But thanks to the crazies (and I use that term politely) over at TMZ, a new images of Steve-O in public has emerged. The image was snapped as he was leaving the Apple campus. It’s good to see the black shirt and blue jeans again.

I’m not one to gossip or gawk, and honestly I can’t stand the paparazzi… But I wanted to share this with you all to spread the good word that Steve is doing just fine.

As always, everyone here at Mactropolis wishes Steve all the best, and we can’t wait to catch him in action again as soon as possible…. Perhaps at CES 2010?

Burning Question: Can You Swallow the iPod Shuffle?

I know that’s a burning question that has been eating away at you, right? Can the new iPod Shuffle be swallowed? (sound the sarcasm alarm) The folks over at Gizmodo enlisted the services of Coney Island Circus sword-swallower Heather Holiday, and the rest is history. No further comment from me needed here… you can check out the video below.

Sunday Pick: Mini Golf 99 Holes Theme Park from Digital Chocolate

Crazy busy Sunday over here. I’m tired, sore, and just want to sit down and watch some hockey (playoff time). Still, with that said I’m going to quickly point all of you towards a new ‘Lite’ game I tried out the other day, and I quite enjoyed it.

Called ‘Mini Golf 99 Holes Theme Park’ (could the name get any stranger/longer?), the game is of course, a mini golf title. The graphics are fun, gameplay is entertaining, and for anyone that enjoys a good game of putt-putt, I’d recommend you check it out. You can get it right here in the App Store for free (iTunes Link).

The ‘Lite’ version will let you play 9 tutorial holes… But if you want to step up and purchase the full version, which includes 99 holes… You’ll have to shell out $4.99 at the App Store (iTunes Link) to pick it up. I’ll let you decide if the game is purchase worthy or not. I’m too tired to comment further.

Happy Sunday all!

Steve Wozniak to Star in ‘Footloose’ Remake

Apparently there’s a remake of the movie ‘Footloose’ in the works. High School Musical star Zac Effron decided to give the film a big ol snub, but thankfully the one and only WOZ has stepped in. Check out the video above. Ahhhh Kimmel. Hilarious.

Thanks Chuck!

iCount… Is That It? Or is it iCun… Oh my.

Yeah that’s right, seems as though the iCount app managed to make its way into the app store with an icon that was somewhat… um… Freudian? Drop the ‘O’ out of the logo and what do you get? Yeah, don’t say it… I just wanted to point it out. Thankfully Apple has made the developer change the graphic, so all is well and good in iCount-land again. I’m sure this was just an honest mistake.

To see the new iCount icon you can check it out in the App Store.

Thanks Toby!

Skype for iPhone Coming Next Week?

Some time ago Skype CEO Josh Silverman was asked about Skype for the iPhone. Without giving away the goat (I’m not sure what that means) all he could say was ’stay tuned’. With that in mind, I know we all realised it was only a matter of time before Skype hit the iPhone.

Now, new word is coming out via a ‘reliable’ tipster over at Gigaom. The word is that Skype is almost ready to launch on the iPhone… Perhaps as early as next week. This would make sense, seeing at CTIA kicks off next week. CTIA is a great platform to launch products, services, apps and everything else techno-geeky-ish.

Stay tuned for more on this one, but there’s no doubt Skype has to get movin’ on the whole mobile thing in order to continue growth and success. While they do have a Windows Mobile client, I know iPhone, BlackBerry and all other types of smartphone devices are pining for Skype. Enough of these other 3rd party apps that make use of Skype. It’s time for Skype to release their own version of Skype Mobile on all major platforms… to real in the Skype die-hards.

DukeMobile App Brings Duke University to Your iPhone

Something for the Duke University student, alumni or just plain Blue Devil fan here. Duke University has launched their very own ‘DukeMobile’ iPhone app. The app gives you quick and easy access to information on the university wherever you are.

Use the map to search buildings on campus, pinpiont them on the map and see your relative location. Handy if you’re on campus and need directions.

A built-in directory lets you search Duke faculty, staff and students. Easily look them up, store their contact information right on your iPhone, and email or call them at your leisure.

The events section keeps you up-to-date on student events on campus. Check out the student calendar and event locations for upcoming shindigs.

One of the more powerful and important areas of DukeMobile is the Courses section. Use it to access the entire Duke course catalog. Handy if you’re simply thinking of applying/attending the university, or helpful for those that are and are trying to pick out courses. Full descriptions, times and locations are listed for each and every course… And of course you can plot the location of the course on the map, or tap to contact the professor. Very cool.

Finally, probably one of the most popular features of this app will be the athletics section. Use it to stay on top of Duke sports news with schedules and up-to-the-minute scores for Blue Devil games no matter where they happen to be taking place.

Many additional features are being worked on for this app, including dining locations, times and menus… Online class registration, campus bus schedules, ‘DukeCard’ balances… and much more.

You can pick up DukeMobile for free via the App Store.

The AllRecipes Dinner Spinner is Changing My Life

I’m not a chef. Never have been, and I probably never will… But when a simple iPhone app actually gets me in the kitchen to cook, it must be doing something right. That’s exactly what the AllRecipes.com Dinner Spinner app has done for me.

The app is divided into two main sections. The first and most important is the actual ‘Dinner Spinner’. This area features three rows of information for you to ’spin’ and come up with a unique category of dish. There is a ‘type’ row, an ‘ingredients’ row, and a ‘ready in’ row. If you know you feel like Pasta, you can lock that down in the Ingredients row by tapping it, and then hit the ‘Spin Categories’ button to come up with a unique combo. The app then shows you recipes available in that particular category to browse.

Recipes are clear and feature a nice image of the dish, the ingredients, and all of the steps necessary to make the dish. There is even nutritional information for you if you need to keep track of that sort of thing. Very handy.

The second section is your ‘Favorites’ area. At any time you can favorite a recipe and it gets thrown into this category for quick and easy reference at any time. I’ve got 5 or 6 dishes in my favorites at the moment… Kind of cool to use this instead of locking down the categories you like in the spinner, running the search, getting your matches and then finding the recipe within the results… The favorites category is simply a time saver.

Ever since I’ve started playing around with the app, I’ve made Asian Beef with Snow Peas (on a few occasions), and even tried out a Chicken Cacciatore recipe. Not bad for a guy that takes pride in his ability to make a mean pot of Kraft Dinner.

Check out the AllRecipes Dinner Spinner right here in the App Store. It’s a free download.

Corus Radio App Streams the Best in Canadian Radio to Your iPhone

Time for a little Canadian content for all of my Canadian friends (heck, I’m Canadian too so why not!). To get to the point, for all of the Canucks out there, if you’ve got your iPhone or iPod Touch in-hand you may want to check out the new Corus Radio app that came out a little while ago.

The app brings all 52 Corus Radio stations to you in streaming format for your listening pleasure. There’s a good mix of rock, contemporary, talk and country… Something for almost any taste. Having just popped open the app again as I type this, there are stations included all the way from Vancouver to Winnipeg to Quebec City, so there’s a good variety of stations to choose from, almost nation wide.

If you want to check it out for yourself, the Corus Radio app is available right now for free in the App Store. Go ahead and pick it up right here (iTunes Link Alert!). Happy listening!
