Before we even dig into the ad Microsoft released I will say that no one is forcing you to get your music through iTunes. With that said, here we go.

Microsoft has released this ad:

Yep, they’re arguing that it cost you $30,000 to own an iPod. Fine, no matter how stupid this is, let’s say that’s the truth, and someone is crazy enough to get $30,000 in music. The problem I had with the ad is what they are trying to sell. The Zunepass.

The Zunepass is a music subsription service wherein the music you download explodes the second you stop paying your montly charge. The market has repeatly show that it does not want to rent music, it want’s to own it. On top of wanting to own it, the market also want as little DRM as possible. Microsoft wraps it’s media with DRM. Microsoft doesn’t get this, and instead argues that the iPod costs enormous amounts of money to use.

As usual the Macalope puts it in colorful words that I must agree with.
