You Software has announced the release of You Control: Tunes 1.6.1, the free iTunes controller and library browsing utility. This update introduces the ability for users to create their own controller icon sets and includes a new controller set designed specifically for Leopard. And as usual this update offers several bug fixes and enhancements for both Leopard and Tiger users.
Tunes is a free utility that gives you complete control over iTunes from the Mac OS X menu bar. Tunes provides easy access to the iTunes controls (such as Next Track, Previous, Volume, Play/Pause, Stop) via both menu items and user-defined hot keys.
One of the features I like is that Tunes can display the current track information in multiple locations… Including the menu bar, inside custom menus, and as an overlay on the desktop. You can even navigate your entire iTunes music library from the menu bar, without ever leaving your current application.

You Control in action. Check out the handy navigation.

A look at the YouControl preferences window.
Tunes is a free download. You can get it here.

Very interesting. I just purchased the MacHeist bundle yesterday and it comes with Cover Sutra. The one thing I don’t like about Cover Sutra (based on my readings, I haven’t tried it yet due to lack of time) is it doesn’t seem to have menu based controls and the desktop overlay of track information.
I have been using Growl to handle desktop notifications of track changes + Synergy for menu controls. Synergy does have its own desktop overlay, but I ilike Growl’s UI better. But I’m looking for a replacement for Synergy simply because Leopard has been out for quite awhile, and there is no final version of a 10.5 version of Synergy.
You Control might be just what Ii’m looking for.
One thing I would have liked to see in the article is screenshots of the interface. I know I can go to the vendor’s website to see that, but having it all in the article on a site I frequent, vs. having to leave the site to find more information is always a plus.
