A Chinese blog UMPCFever (Google translation here) is showcasing a series of photos that they claim are from the upcoming iPhone 3.0 software.
The two most interesting photos on the site are of the rumored auto-focus feature for the iPhone’s built in camera, and the photo of the rumored compass feature.
According to the blog you place your finger on the object you want iPhone to focus on before you take the picture.
There is also a picture of the memo recording app that Apple announced in March.
Almost all of these images are blurry, which is normally a sign they are fake. However, these are images we have seen before in one form or another, adding to their credibility.

From an AdMob survey via Fortune comes a report that the iPhone has 59% of “smartphone” web traffic and 43% of total “mobile” web traffic.
The article contiues by pointing out that although the iPhone has 59% of smartphone traffic they only have 8% of the smartphone market. Impressive.
What can we conclude from all of this? Well, according to the survey, it’s a phase we’re going through. As the platform matures we may not visit as many sites to get our data. Instead we may recieve it through devoted applications or push notification.
There have been photos floating arournd for some time now that claim to be the new case design for the upcoming iPhone. Today MacRumors has a new side-by-side comparison photo of the current iPhone (right) and the supposed next-gen iPhone (left).
This photo is of course hard to verify as true, but does hold up to recent rumors suggesting a matte finish.

Looks like US TV Shows are popping up in the Canadian iTunes Store, and many are in HD! TV Shows available include 24, Bones, ER, 30 Rock, Fringe, House, How I Met Your Mother, and the one I just bought, LOST Season 5!
A MacRumors reader posted in the forums a mock-up of the next iPhone based off of the previously leaked bezel image.
This new image shows that the speaker would be considerably higher on the new iPhone than on previous generations. The outer color of the bezel would now be black instead of the current silver color.
I think this is very similar to what we can expect on June 8th when Phil Schiller gives the keynote address at this years WWDC.
In an interview with USA Today, Apple SVP of retail Ron Johnson said yesterday that Apple is planning to remodel 100 of their stores.
Not much is said about the redesign itself. However, he does say the display tables will allow room for twice as many Macs. The Genius Bar will also grow, allowing 50% more room for customer support.
Along with the remodeling comes changes to Apple’s “One to One” program. Starting June 2 Apple will limit sign-ups to people who buy new Mac computers at Apple Stores or via its website. The sessions will now last three hours instead of one.
So what do you think of when you think of iPhone apps? Games? Crazy Calculators? Fart Machines? Other useless apps? Well how about an application that can potentially help legalize Marijuana?
Chronic-les is a newly released iPhone/iPod Touch app that is attempting to campaign the legalizaition of Marijuana for personal use in a whole new way. With legalization of marijuana being a major topic of today, it didn’t take long for someone to create an iPhone app to help the cause.
Chronic-les has three major components to it.
- Find out where the nearest NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) chapters are located.
- Instantly know the current Marijuana laws wherever you are.
- Send a pre-drafted email directly to President Obama to protest the prohibition of marijuana.
A slew of features for $0.99. Chronic-les mission statement is “to utilize advances in technology to advocate the legalization of marijuana for personal use.” If you are interested in the legalization of Marijuana, you should try out this app from the iTunes store.

With little fanfare Apple has updated the White MacBook today.
Here’s the rundown:
- Processor speed increased from 2.0 GHz to 2.13 GHz.
- RAM speed up from 667 MHz to 800 MHz.
- Hard drive capacity bumped from 120 GB to 160 GB.
The price is still $999, but now meets Energy Star Version 5.0 requirements and is now rated EPEAT Gold.
I suspect this had something to do with the recently launched “Back-to-school” promotion.
Apple today launched it’s annual “Back-to-school” promotion. This year is pretty similar to last years.
You will receive a rebate of up to $229 for any iPod with the purchase of a qualifying Mac. Which Macs qualify? All of them except for the Mac Mini. This offer however is not work with the purchase of refurbished Macs or iPods.
Both purchases must be made at the same time on the same reciept at an Apple store or an authorized campus store. The promotion will run until September 8th.
In the same article as mentioned earlier, iLounge also reported new features of the upcoming iPhone.
They claim the new iPhone will have 3 distinct models with two differing storage capacities each. There will be a 3G, enhanced 3G, and mainland China versions. These different models will be availible depending on where you live in the world. The “mainland China” model will obviously go to mainland china, while the 3G and “enhanced 3G” models will be dispersed according to local carriers and their ability to support a faster device.
As for astetics the new iPhone is expected to look similar to the current one except it will now sport a matte finish insteade of a glossy one.
The different models sounds like an uncharacteristic mess for Apple, but I don’t think it’s a mess Apple can fix. It appears that if some carriers don’t have the ability to support a faster iPhone they default to the slower current-gen iPhone.
