Adium 1.3 Includes Facebook Chat

The very popular IM client, Adium has been updated to version 1.3. A number of new features have been added, including the ability to login to Facebook Chat if you wish. As if Facebook’s reach wasn’t enough, now they had to go and get included in one of the most popular IM’s for the Mac :) (and yes, I do use Adium, it’s a very handy app).

The only downside to using Adium for Facebook Chat, is that once you login to Facebook Chat via Adium, you will be logged out of Facebook if you were logged in elsewhere. I can’t see this being a huge bother, unless you’re absolutely addicted to the site.

Other changes in the new version include an updated Contact Inspector, along with the usual bunch of tweaks and bug fixes.

iPhone App of the Day: Ambiance

Remember the aSleep app I told you about the other day? Today’s App of the day, Ambiance, comes to us from a similar point of view, but the main goal of the app is to literally help you chill out :)

If you’re having trouble relaxing, or simply need a little relaxation while sitting at work, or in the airport, Ambiance is here to help you. It’s the ultimate ‘environment enhancer’. Plug in your headphones and relax to one of the many looping sound tracks built into the app. Listen to city noises, crickets, rain, waves, even white noise… There’s quite an extensive list of sound tracks for you to choose from. There is even a shutoff timer and alarm… So you can use it to help you fall asleep at night, or wake up in the morning.

The developer Matt Coneybeare has reported that many updates based on user requests are on the way… So stay tuned for more on this one.

AT&T Launching 2 New International Data Plans

AT&T has just now announced two new international iPhone plans. Both plans will be available come August 27th. The new plans are expensive as all heck… But if you’re a bit of a world traveler, I suppose it would be in your best interest to pick one up.

The first plan goes for $119.99 and offers 100MB of data transfer. The second plan goes for $199.99 and doubles the data transfer limit up to 200MB. The new plans will be available in addition to the pre-existing plans already available in 67 other countries.

All international plans can be added on an ‘as needed’ basis, which is very cool. No need to get locked into something you won’t need for the long term. Especially if you’re simply going on a months vacation overseas and want to bump up your data transfer so that you don’t end up with a wicked bill.

For more details, read the official press release from AT&T.

Leaked Macbook Pro Ad! September 9th Launch?

If your a regular in our forums you might have seen the so-called new Macbook Pro advertisement that has been circulating the internet. Well, sure enough its a fake, created by MacRumors forum member. But, for what its worth it is a pretty good fake. The ‘fake’ Macbook Pro features an aluminum case, MacBook Air-style backlit black plastic keyboard, tapered edges and a thinner design. It could actually be very close to the final Macbook Pro Apple churns out. Ah but, what will be under the hood I hear you ask? Well.. You’ll just have to take that up with Mr Jobs because we have absolutely no idea.

In other news; it seems that all sources are pointing to September 9th for Apple to launch their new product line. Will it be the iPod Nano 4th-gen, Macbook Pro or a Macbook Touch (iTablet)? Who knows, neither the date or the product is confirmed or denied by Apple. I’m guessing we’ll just have to wait this one out guys…

In the mean time though, head to the rumor mill in our forum to discuss possible products, dates and specs.

iPhone App of the Day: BreakTouch 3D

Remember Arkanoid? Yeah? If you do, BreakTouch 3D might be right up your alley. It’s a new variation on the classic arcade game. Use the paddle at the bottom of the screen to bounce the ball towards the top of the tower where blocks are located. Destroy all of the blocks and you’ll move on to the next level. Controlling the paddle is easy, simply slide your finger across the screen to move it. Simple, classic and fun!

So far the game is getting great reviews in the App Store. So, if you are a fan of the original, or one of the hundreds of other variations of this game… BreakTouch 3D may be a worthy addition to your iPhone games library… Plus, the fine developers at Bootant.com also have quite a few variations of this game, including a more ‘classic’ version… Check them out here.

Verizon’s Anti-iPhone Cheat Sheet

Looks like Verizon put together a little ‘cheat sheet’ for its representatives to study from. The sheet is clearly setup to allow reps to answer customer questions on why Verizon does not carry the iPhone. Included are the 4 most common ‘myths’ according to Verizon regarding the new iPhone 3G.

There’s of course every chance this is all a fake, as this does look kind of hacked together (in which case, c’mon Verizon, you can put together a cleaner and more comprehensive document than this?! Can’t you!?)… But I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the real deal. What do you think?

Mac Clone Maker ‘Open Tech’ Up For Sale

After only 3 weeks of operation, a new Mac clone company is putting itself up for sale, according to this notice. Open Tech has opened the company up for offers, and is willing to part with everything including branding and trade secrets. How much will it cost you? Try a paltry $50,000. The mac clone business really must not be worth it.

Open Tech set itself apart from its legally troubled rival Psystar (a few of their offerings are pictured above) by promising not to install Mac OS X Leopard directly to any of their PC’s. Doing so would violate Apple’s licensing agreement. Open Tech instead provided a kit which would allow the installation of any major operating system…which would therefore put the customers in violation of Apple’s licensing agreement if they installed OS X. What a brilliant plan.
